Under Qatar Fund for Development’s new initiative: Women in Conflict Zones, Orbis will deliver a week-long, regional eye care simulation training in Doha. As part of the second phase of the Qatar Creating Vision initiative, virtual and theoretical learning opportunities for ophthalmologists and nurses, will be provided via our award winning platform Cybersight, prior to in-person simulation training, delivered by Orbis’s leading medical volunteers and staff.

Travel and in-country costs will be covered for all selected participants.

There are only a limited number of places available which can be applied for here. Supported by The Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Charity and Qatar Airways, this is a unique opportunity to train on state-of-the-art equipment and be exposed to multiple sub-specialities, as well as attend lectures and workshops.

Training will take place onboard our fully accredited ophthalmic teaching facility, the Flying Eye Hospital.

This course is open to women from, or living in the following countries:

• Afghanistan,
• Iraq,
• Libya,
• Palestine,
• Somalia,
• Sudan,
• Syria,
• Yemen.

Participating ophthalmologists will have multi-subspecialty simulation training on areas including, cataract, glaucoma, strabismus, medical retina-laser.

Participating nurses will have nursing simulation training on topics such as, scrubbing and circulating for ophthalmic surgeries; cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization process of surgical instruments; pre-operative patient preparation and post-operative patient care.

For Ophthalmologists:

• Junior Ophthalmology Resident
• Senior Ophthalmology Resident
• Ophthalmology Fellow
• Junior Consultant Ophthalmologist (practicing for <5 years)

*Senior consultant ophthalmologists also considered if an applicant has not had access to continued learning in the last decade.

Number of surgeries performed as the primary surgeon in the following subspecialties below:

• Cataract (MSICS, ECCE, Phacoemulsification & cataract extraction) | Maximum 100
• Glaucoma (Trabeculectomy, Tube Implantation - valved / non-valved) | Maximum 30
• Strabismus (Horizontal muscle surgery, Vertical rectus surgery, Inferior/Superior oblique surgery, Adjustable suture) | Maximum 20
• Medical Retina (Intravitreal injections, Pan Retinal photocoagulation (PRP), Focal Laser: Macular grid retinal holes, tears; Argon Laser using Indirect) | Maximum 30

For Nurses:

• Ophthalmic Nurses or nurses working in the ophthalmology department operating room
• Nurses who have basic training in operating room aseptic technique

All: Participant to have access to a computer/mobile device with stable internet connection/Wi-Fi for mandatory online learning prior to Doha training course.
