Volunteer Faculty eligibility

Given the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital is the world's only fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital on board an MD-10 aircraft, we require all prospective and current volunteer faculty to meet and maintain our strict credentialing criteria to be granted clinical privileges.

Orbis medical volunteer requirements include:

  • Five years’ experience post completion of academic training or a minimum of five years ophthalmic nursing experience
  • Active medical/nursing license or registration
  • Available copies of all relevant diplomas and certificates
  • Board certification or equivalency in country of primary practice
  • Active hospital privileges (for programmes that involve direct patient care)
  • Two references from current or previous Orbis volunteer faculty
