Transparency and accountability

At Orbis, everything we do is guided by our vision to transform lives through the prevention and treatment of blindness.

We have high standards for how we achieve this. Here you will find information on how we keep people safe, our financial accountability and our involvement in the International Aid Transparency Initiative.

Keeping People Safe

Our approach to keeping people safe is guided by the following principles:

  • to take appropriate measures to protect people from harm and treat people with respect
  • to take safeguarding seriously to ensure we provide the highest standards of care worldwide
  • to work closely with long term partners in the countries where we operate
  • to ensure all staff, contractors and volunteers follow a strict ethical code of practice and clear policies to keep people safe
  • for all partners to agree to follow clear safeguarding policies and train their staff on these policies before they can work with us
  • to commit to upholding these principles throughout our global operations.

Financial Accountability

International Aid Transparency Initiative

We also support the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) which is a global effort to make information about aid spending and effectiveness easier to access, understand and use. It enables Civil Society Organisations to publish information on their work in one way (the IATI Standard) and one place (the IATI Registry).

Read our Transparency and Accountability policy.

We currently publish our financial information quarterly and information about our results annually on IATI for two projects, one in Nepal and one in Ethiopia. You can take a look at the IATI Registry, which is the database containing our data, but if you would like to know more about these projects, we recommend taking a look at our Orbis page on D-Portal, or you can find us on DFID’s DevTracker.
