Training is at the very heart of everything we do. With the help of our world-leading expert medical volunteers, we provide training to all types of healthcare workers – from doctors and nurses in regional hospitals to district leaders and teachers in remote areas.
At Orbis, we're incredibly lucky to work with some amazing individuals, companies, government departments and embassies across the Middle East and beyond. Here you can learn more about their support and discover how you too could help us tackle avoidable blindness worldwide.
At Orbis we know the only path to a better tomorrow is by working together to create a sustainable, prosperous future for all. The power of one may be strong, but the power of many is far stronger.
Globally, there are 338 million people who are blind or are living with moderate-to-severe visual impairment. Out of these, a huge 77% is completely preventable or treatable.
By working in isolation we would not be able to make even the smallest dent in this shocking statistic. But by building a global network of strategic partnerships we can, together, hope to one day bring an end to avoidable blindness.
In 2020 our hospital partnerships in Ethiopia resulted in 7.5 million doses of antibiotics to treat and prevent trachoma, a blinding bacterial infection. The fact that this took pace during a global pandemic is testament to the strong alliances we’ve forged with hospitals and other healthcare partners.
Partnerships are at the heart of all that we do. We have conducted 74 projects in 19 countries, with whom we work with to identify and address problems ranging from a shortage of skilled eye health professionals to a lack of proper equipment and resources. We work with governments and health ministries to improve patient care standards and ensure our partners receive all the support they need.
By building long-term relationships based on trust and cooperation, we build the capacity of partners to find appropriate, sustainable solutions. We collaborate with other NGOs on the ground to help implement our vital program work. Fred Hollows and Sightsavers are just two of the organisations we work with to help fight trachoma in Ethiopia through the distribution of antibiotics and awareness raising projects.
Our partners are all part of the Orbis family. A family which includes you, our wonderful supporters, right at the heart of it. None of this would be possible without your continued help.
If you continue to support us, we'll continue to form partnerships that create lasting change for eye health across the globe.
